Sleiman asks LAF, UNIFIL to launch further investigations into Israeli infiltration

President Michel Sleiman urged on Thursday the Lebanese Armed Forces and the United Nations Interim Forces In Lebanon (UNIFIL) to launch further investigations into the infiltration of an Israeli patrol in southern Lebanon.

Sleiman's request aims at studying in detail the circumstances of the infiltration in order to add the information to a complaint the Lebanese authorities plan to file with the U.N. Security Council.

An Israeli foot patrol violated the blue line in the region of Labbouneh and crossed 400 meters into the Lebanese territories, and while infiltrating, a landmine detonated leaving a number of injuries, according to the statement issued by the Lebanese Armed Forces Command on Wednesday.

The Lebanese army called the incident "a new violation of Lebanese sovereignty."

In turn, UNIFIL said it had opened an investigation and had asked the Israeli military to provide details "of any incident in the area as alleged" and its precise location.
