Jumblatt says he seeks stability, calls on Syrian opposition to unite

   
The head of the National Struggle Front MP Walid Jumblatt stressed on Sunday that the Progressive Socialist Party will not comment on articles or messages sent through “hired newspapers,” noting that the party will keep on seeking stability.            

In a speech delivered on his behalf by Lieutenant Colonel Sharif Fayyad in a press conference held in Aley, Jumblatt called for the formation of a cabinet of national reconciliation with a comprehensive participation, pointing out that the current political void hinders the affairs of the citizens and obstructs progress in dealing with social and economic issues. 

He stressed that the PSP is committing to a number of political principles including diversity, plurality, and the need to overcome the confessional and sectarian system, noting that the party has long struggled to practically implement these principles through its refusal to be dragged toward sedition or instability.                

On another note, the PSP leader said that his party achieved historical reconciliation in al-Jabal with the former Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Boutros Sfeir, in order to turn over a new leaf and end the war completely.                                

On the Syrian crisis, Jumblatt said: “It is very remarkable that there is a huge difference between the martyrs of the Arab Syrian Army who fall when facing Israel in Beirut, Ain Zhalta and al-Sultan Yaacoub and the actions carried out by the Syrian army in targeting Syrian cities.”                    

In this context, Jumblatt praised the sacrifices of the Syrian people in fighting against tyranny, reiterating his call on the Syrian opposition to unite under one national democratic program.
