Syrian national abducted in the Bekaa region

The state-run National News Agency reported on Thursday that four unknown individuals kidnapped on Wednesday midnight, the Syrian national Mohammad  Alkhafily (born in 1976) outside his residence  in the Bekaa town of Hawsh Harimeh.

The reasons of the abduction are yet to be known.

A wave of tit-for-tat kidnapping began on Sunday March 24, when Hussein Kamel al-Jaafar was kidnapped by unidentified assailants and reportedly taken into Syria.

In retaliation, the al-Jaafar clan of Baalbeck kidnapped several people from Arsal.

Kidnapping operations either for retaliatory reasons or for ransom have been on the rise, especially in Lebanon's Bekkaa and border regions and many believe this phenomenon is a reflection of the ongoing crisis in neighboring Syria.
