The Minister of Interior Marwan Charbel said that any political and administrative reform should include municipalities, adding that these institutions are at the chore of a decentralized state that all political powers especially the ministry of interior is trying to achieve.

During the General Conference of the First National Municipal Council said that it is unacceptable that some regions and villages in Lebanon do not municipal councils to serve peoples’ needs. Charbel announced that his ministry is seeking to establish municipalities in the towns and villages lacking them and will support small municipalities to carry out their duties towards their local residents.

“We are encouraging joint activities between local and foreign municipalities for expertise exchange”, Charbel was quoted as saying, “The ministry is preparing for by elections where the municipals councils are dissolved to place it on the right track and serve their community”.
