MEA to keep some Tuesday flights on schedule

Middle East Airlines (MEA) announced that Tuesday flights to Paris, Brussels, London, Frankfurt, Istanbul and Baghdad will not be affected by the pilots’ strike, and that the company is currently working on getting more of their flights off the ground.           

The company’s executive board will hold a meeting Tuesday afternoon to take decisions in response to the strike.         

LBCI was informed that 13 pilots submitted their resignation from the Pilots’ Union, enabling the company to keep some flights on the schedule.          

MEA pilots announced earlier that they will suspend their flights for 48 hours starting 10 pm Monday evening, after they gave the company’s administration a chance to go back on theِir decision to dismiss one of the pilots for suffering from an incurable disease, and after they delayed all MEA flights for 2 hours for 3 days in a row.         

The pilots gathered outside the doors of both the arrivals and departures lobbies, stressing that this demand has nothing to do with the disputed former demands.                    

The company’s administration had released a clarification statement saying that the above mentioned pilot lost his medical certification to fly due to an incurable disease. According to the company’s regulations, in place for over 10 years, a pilot that fails a physical examination must stop working immediately. The administration noted that this regulation has been previously enforced in similar cases.
