Caretaker Minister Aridi to LBCI: Russia will remain Syria's ally despite military strike

Caretaker Works and Transportation Minister Ghazi Aridi said in Thursday that US President Barrack Obama does not want to enter a war "based on false information."

Aridi's statement came during an interview with Nharkom Said TV show in which he noted that the US Congress will approve the military strike against Syria, noting that the US people reject Obama's plans for Damascus.

He also noted that Russia will remain a strong ally for Syria despite the potential military act against Syria.

Obama has been lobbying for international and domestic support for punishing President Bashar Assad's regime, which the U.S. says fired rockets loaded with the nerve agent sarin on rebel-held areas near Damascus before dawn on Aug. 21, killing hundreds of civilians.

So far, however, he has won little international backing for action. Among major allies, only France has offered publicly to join the U.S. in a strike.
