Pharmacies commit to strike in protest against insecurity

Pharmacies closed their doors nationwide on Monday afternoon for 15 minutes in a symbolic protest against the robberies and threats they are falling victim to.

The majority of pharmacies were committed to the strike called for by Order of Pharmacists of Lebanon. Although clients were still coming in, pharmacies halted all sales. Like any other business, pharmacies can be targeted by violent crimes. Pharmacists consider that this movement might be taken into account by the security apparatuses.

Pharmacists stressed that what every business owner and citizen ask for is security and stability in a country where crimes have increased.

The Order of Pharmacists urged the Interior Ministry to ensure the full protection of pharmacies by intensifying patrols of municipality guards. The order also gave pharmacies instructions to install surveillance cameras or hire night guards.
