Tripoli clashes death toll reaches 4, Rafei calls for dissolving the Arab Democratic Party

Sniping operations continued on Thursday between Tripoli’s Bab al-Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen following heavy clashes on Wednesday overnight in various fighting axes where heavy weaponry was used and random shelling targeted several streets across the city.           

Today’s clashes killed two citizens identified as Mohammad al-Nazer and a military official in the Arab Democratic Party Bassam Abdallah, and injured many others, bringing the total death toll of Tripoli’s clashes to 4 and at least 35 injured,  identified as: Ramadan Abdel Latif Jammo, Idris Tarek al-Moadal, Walid Berghosh, Omar al-Lababidi, Mohammad Saleh, Ali al-Saedi, Ismail Ibrahim al-Sharif and Ammar Imad el-Din al Shoueibi.          

The city is witnessing slow traffic, while most shops located far from the clashes are reopening their doors for business. This as schools and universities remained closed.         

A meeting was held at the residence of Sheikh Salem al-Rafei in the region of Dam Wel Farez in Tripoli, where axis leaders and Sheikhs discussed the security situation prevailing over the city.     

Following the meeting, sheikh Salem al-Rafei called for dissolving the Arab Democratic Party, stressing that the blood of those killed in the clashes will not go to waste.

Wednesday night witnessed fierce battles on the axis of Haret Barraniyat, Souk el Kameh, Baqqar and Haret el Saydeh, where light and medium weapons and rocket-propelled grenades were used.

Bab al-Tebbaneh and Jabal Mohsen have been at odds for decades, but the fighting between them has intensified since the start of the Syrian conflict in a sign of how the civil war next door has spilled into Lebanon.
