Hezbollah urges officials to implement security measures in Tripoli

Hezbollah denounced on Sunday the attack that targeted citizens in Tripoli pointing out that the crime was perpetrated by a heinous group in the northern city, stressing that any citizen may be subject to a sectarian crime.

Hezbollah asked in a statement the judiciary and the security authorities to take appropriate measures in order to bring perpetrators to justice in a bid to avoid the repetition of such incidents.

Accordingly, the party called upon the citizens of the northern city to exert more efforts in order to avoid the re-occurrence of similar clashes.

A number of citizens from Tripoli’s Bab al-Tabbaneh opened fire on Saturday at others from Jabal Mohsen on the road between Naher Abou Ali and al-Mallouli region.

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon.

But the city has become increasingly volatile in recent months due to the civil war in neighboring Syria, where the Sunni majority is leading a revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.
