REPORT: MP Arslan denies exchanging messages between MP Jumblatt, Syria’s Assad

         
Lebanese Democratic Party leader MP Talal Arslan denied, in a phone call with LBCI, exchanging any messages between the National Struggle Front leader MP Walid Jumblatt and Syrian President Bachar al-Assad.          

Arslan added that his last meeting with President Assad was held 15 days ago, noting that he did not tackle the aforementioned subject with MP Jumblatt during their meetings.

This comes after a political source close to the March 8 coalition stressed that Progressive Socialist Party (PSP) leader MP Walid Jumblatt has sent a letter to Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, in a clear sign of a shift in his stance regarding the Syrian crisis, the Daily Star reported.        

“MP Jumblatt’s message, which Druze former Minister Talal Arslan conveyed to President Assad, was twofold,” the source added.       

It also reported that Jumblatt has called for re-evaluating relations between his party and the Syrian administration, noting that he called on Assad to re-enroll two Druze officers who had defected earlier, in the Syrian army.            

While the PSP refused to comment on Jumblatt’s letter when contacted by The Daily Star, the PSP leader is set to discuss key local and regional issues during an interview with LBCI’s Kalam Ennas on Tuesday.
