Arab Democratic Party says 3 Jabal Mohsen residents attacked

Lebanese citizen Abdel Karim al-Qabou from Tripoli’s Jabal Mohsen was attacked with knives in the vicinity of the al-Nini Hospital in Tripoli, and was taken to a hospital in Zgharta for treatment.       

In this context, sources from the Arab Democratic Party told LBCI that three residents from Jabal Mohsen identified as Abdel Karim al-Qabou, Youssef Daadou and Mahmoud Hassan, were attacked on Thursday in the area of al-Tal.         

However, military sources told LBCI that only one person was attacked.         

On another note, the Arab Democratic Party will be holding a meeting in the evening in order to take a decision regarding the rally scheduled for Friday.     

Separately, a meeting will be held at 5 o’clock at the residence of the Mufti of Tripoli and the North Sheikh Malek Chaar to discuss the latest developments in the city.

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon.          

But the city has become increasingly volatile in recent months due to the civil war in neighboring Syria, where the Sunni majority is leading a revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.          

Disputes from neighboring Syria's civil war frequently inflame sectarian grievances in Tripoli. These clashes pit gunmen from both the mostly Sunni Bab Tabbaneh district and the Jabal Mohsen district which mostly comprises residents of Syrian President Bashar Assad's Alawite sect, a Shiite Islam offshoot.                  

Tensions had been mounting since 14 October, when a Lebanese military prosecutor pressed charges against seven men, at least one of whom was from Jabal Mohsen, for their involvement in twin bombings near two Sunni mosques in Tripoli on 23 August that killed 47 people.
