REPORT: MP Kanaan: New salaries increase is retroactive

MP Ibrahim Kanaan, head of the Finance and Budget Parliamentary Committee held a press conference at the parliament in which he hailed the work of the lawmakers and the parliament's General Secretariat.

He also noted that the new salaries increase will be "retroactive."

Kanaan said that revenues for the treasury  will not have any repercussions on the poor people,  adding that the amended wages decree is “ balanced and fair."

Kanaan stressed that the treasury will have to cover  more than LL2,300 billion with the presence of 180,000 public sector employees, including military personnel.

He also noted that the ball was "in the court of the committee" that was able to set reforms despite the "limited capabilities."
