Army Intelligence Directorate arrests most-wanted man in Baalbek

The Lebanese Armed Forces' Intelligence Directorate has managed to arrest one of the most-wanted individuals in the eastern town of Bekaa.

Citizen Ali Ahmad Jaafar was arrested on Friday afternoon in the region of Ras al-Ain -Baalbek following massive manhunt.

Unidentified men driving a GMC and a Grand Cherokee had tried to intercept the patrol in order to prevent Jaafar from being arrested, which prompted members of the army patrol to open fire to disperse them.

Multiple arrest warrants were issued against Jaafar who is charged with establishing a kidnapping gang, weapons and drugs trafficking and being involved in the abduction of Lebanese citizens: Ahmad Zaydan, Ibrahim al-Atat, Mohammad Salman Salman, and Syrian national Ibrahim Katoul.

Jaafar is also accused of intercepting a Syrian bus and stealing the passengers' money and cell phones.

Military weapons and hand grenades were found in his possession and the LAF also seized the Kia Cerato car he was driving without identification papers.
