Mikati from Berlin: No final solutions in sight for regional crises
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said Monday that the many international and Arab meetings he held on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference in Germany proved that a final solution for the regional crises, mainly the Syrian conflict, will not be reached anytime soon, noting that only temporary solutions can be implemented to deal with urgent humanitarian issues.

From Berlin, Mikati pointed out that, during his meetings with foreign officials, he tackled the “dangerousness of the situation in Lebanon on the backdrop of the Syrian war and the influx of Syrian refugees,” stressing the importance of establishing refugee camps inside the Syrian territories in order to reduce the burden imposed on Syria’s neighboring countries.

He also called on the Swiss Confederation to increase its support for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Lebanon and the Lebanese Red Cross, as well as to establish a field hospital north of the country.

In this context, Mikati said that France is willing to present a new initiative to support Lebanon in dealing with the economic repercussions of the Syrian conflict and to enhance its constitutional institutions.
