US "strongly condemns" recent bombings in Lebanon

The United States condemned on Tuesday “in the strongest terms” the recent terrorist attacks that targeted the town of Hermel and Choueifat.

"The US extends deepest condolences to the victims and their families, the Lebanese people should not have to live in fear as they conduct their daily lives,” said State Department spokesperson Jen Psaki.

Psaki urged all Lebanese parties "to exercise restraint and refrain from contributing to the cycle of violence.”

She reiterated the call for the full implementation of the Baabda declaration, United Nations Security Council Resolutions 1559 and 1701, and the Taef Agreement.

Several people were killed and injured in suicide bombings that targeted Hermel and Choueifat respectively on Saturday and Monday.

A series of deadly bombings have targeted Hezbollah's strongholds, and the attacks are believed to be a retaliation for the armed group's military intervention in Syria in support of President Bashar Assad against the rebels that seek to topple him.
