Mikati: Lebanon’s situation largely intertwined with Syrian developments

Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati said Tuesday that the situation in Lebanon has become widely intertwined with the complications of the Syrian crisis, noting that this may continue so long as regional tensions remain unsettled.

Mikati pointed out via twitter that reaching an agreement over a cabinet that includes all the political parties “comes at an appropriate time, enticing various parties to take part in it.”

“We are witnessing a clash of differences, which further pushes rival parties from finding common grounds,” he added.

Mikati is currently in Germany where he is participating in the Munich Security Conference and holding meetings with international and Arab leaders to tackle the situation in Lebanon and the region.

Lebanon has been witnessing a direct spillover of the Syrian crisis as rockets and mortar shells keep on landing in the northern border towns, leaving casualties and material damages, as well as a wave of terrorist attacks against Hezbollah strongholds, resulting in casualties and heavy material losses.
