The head of the Lebanese Forces party Samir Geagea said on Thursday that the deteriorating security situation is caused by the fact that Hezbollah holds the security and military decision-making.
During a press conference, Geagea noted that March 8 forces are insisting on convincing the people that the fundamentalist groups would have infiltrated into Lebanon, even if Hezbollah had not interfered in the Syrian crisis, recalling that the latest fundamentalist group arrived to Lebanon through Naher al-Bared, where Hezbollah refused to fight it.
He pointed out that the Islamic State in Iraq and Levant (ISIL) has been present in Iraq since 2003, and had not considered expanding its activities to Lebanon.
Regarding the issue of the cabinet, Geagea said that the ministerial statement will define the cabinet’s policy, adding that “the latest events do not bode well.”
He pointed out that the Baabda Declaration is a set of general principles that concern the state, its authority and the policy of disassociating Lebanon from the regional conflicts, stressing that the proposal that suggests joining all the decisions issued by the national dialogue committee aims at ignoring the Baabda Declaration.
“Hezbollah’s intervention in the regional conflicts drags Lebanon into chaos,” Geagea said, noting that the only solution for the current crisis is Hezbollah’s withdrawal from Syria and the deployment of the Lebanese army along the border.
Commenting on the Israeli raid targeting the Lebanese-Syrian border, Geagea said that Hezbollah’s response to the attack came after the case was discussed in Iran, stressing that this is Iran’s response.
On another note, he called on the Parliamentary Committee on Human Rights to send the reports of its meetings concerning the abduction of Joseph Sader to the public prosecution.
