As if Christmas is bound to turn each year into Good Friday. Last year, Iraq’s Christmas was bathed in blood and so was Nigeria’s this year. 35 people were killed across Nigeria in blasts claimed by Boko Haram (western education is haram), an Islamist group that draws inspiration from the Taliban and is linked to al-Qaeda in the Arab Maghreb.
The bloody Christmas in Nigeria did not overshadow Christmas celebrations across the world even if, each year, the question of religious extremism is raised in several regions.

In Lebanon, Bkerke’s Christmas celebration was not devoid of political positions put forth by President Michel Sleiman. Commenting on terrorism in Lebanon, Sleiman voiced conviction that no Lebanese person and no Lebanese region accept to shelter terrorism. As for the issue of arms, the president said that the arms spread in the cities should be pulled out, a demand echoed by nearly all Lebanese. He added however that the issue should be handled through open dialogue.
