MP Mohammed Kabbara denounced on Friday the clashes that erupted yesterday in Lebanon’s northern city of Tripoli and accused the Arab Democratic Party of destabilizing the city.       

“The Arab Democratic Party, which takes orders from Hezbollah and the Syrian regime, was ordered yesterday to escalate tensions in Tripoli to put pressure on the March 14 coalition over the policy statement,” MP Kabbara told Al-Joumhouria daily.         

“Who benefits from dragging the city into a new battle after the situation was back to normal with the formation of a new cabinet?” he asked.         

MP Kabbara also called on President Michel Sleiman and Prime Minister Tammam Salam to give a clear order to the security apparatuses to respond to sources of fire.           



“Speaker Nabih Berri told Finance Minister Ali Hassan Khalil that the formula he submitted to the cabinet does not require any amendments within the next few hours,” sources told As-Safir newspaper on Friday.          

In this regard, Berri told the daily that “if there were good intentions and an ability to reach a settlement, then the March 14 coalition could accept this formula”.        

He also hoped Prime Minister Tammam Salam would hold further consultations until Monday and would not resign.             



National Struggle Front leader MP Walid Jumblatt said on Friday that the concerned parties will probably fail to reach an agreement over the policy statement before the end of the March 14 anniversary.           

MP Jumblatt also told Al-Akhbar newspaper that the 30-day deadline which ends on Monday is not decisive, and said: “It seems we can skip it”.
