Future bloc calls for an advanced security plan in Tripoli

Future bloc said on Thursday that the northern city of Tripoli is in dire need of a comprehensive and clear security plan in order to put an end for the security chaos in the city.

This as the bloc called for an advanced security plan for the Lebanese Armed Forces on the northern and eastern borders with Syria, with the cooperation of the international peacekeeping forces.

The port city of Tripoli has long been a stronghold of Sunni Islamists in northern Lebanon.

But the city has become increasingly volatile in recent months due to the civil war in neighboring Syria, where the Sunni majority is leading a revolt against President Bashar al-Assad.

The bloc also condemned the incidents that took place on Saturday night in Beirut's Tariq al-Jdide, calling on political forces to ease down their rhetoric.

One person was killed and at least ten persons were injured on Saturday in clashes that erupted between Salafists and supporters of Arab Movement Party leader Shaker al-Berjawi near the Sports City center in Beirut.

On another note, the bloc reiterated the call for Hezbollah to withdraw from Hezbollah and sparing the lives of Lebanese people.

Hezbollah argues that its military intervention in Syria is necessary to address the threat of Qaeda-linked groups seeking to smuggle into Lebanon and to prevent the fall of Syria in the hands of “Israel and the U.S.”
