MP Jumblatt: 20 rounds of violence in Tripoli could have been avoided
National Struggle Front leader MP Walid Jumblatt voiced surprise Tuesday that some political parties had “forewarned” axes leaders in Tripoli and advised them to flee before the implementation of the security plan.

“In a magical way ... Tripoli's security plan kicked off after the northern city was battered with 20 rounds of violence,” MP Jumblatt said in a statement.

He also said the political cover has been finally lifted off the neighborhood thugs and top militants in an “actual” manner, after it was “lifted several times theoretically.”

“The funniest thing about the security plan, which we cannot but support and wish success for …, is that it forewarned all axes leaders that it was about to be implemented, which enabled the Secretary General of the Arab Democratic Party Refaat Eid to continue his higher studies at the University of California, Berkeley,” Jumblatt said ironically.

"It had been possible to avoid 20 rounds of violence that killed hundreds of innocent civilians and soldiers rather than 'exhausting' the northern city," he said.

In this regard, Jumblatt added that Tripoli deserves life as well as leaders who are able to manage its affairs, achieve development and execute social and economic projects.
