Israel outlines new ceasefire proposal ahead of negotiations: LBCI correspondent in Haifa

LBCI correspondent in Haifa, Amaal Shahadeh, reported ahead of Tuesday’s negotiations that Israel is putting forward a new formula linking mutual de-escalation measures with Lebanon.

According to Shehadeh, Israel is proposing to stop targeting Hezbollah’s presence near northern Israeli settlements in exchange for a halt to Israeli strikes on Beirut’s southern suburb.

She added that Israel is also suggesting that for every effective step taken by the Lebanese army to restrict Hezbollah’s weapons, Israel would gradually reduce its presence in what it describes as a security belt inside Lebanon.

Shehadeh further noted that Israel is insisting on maintaining its presence in the high ground areas it currently occupies, while preserving operational freedom to act against Hezbollah and its infrastructure in southern Lebanon.
