Cabinet session convenes at the Baabda Palace

The cabinet convened on Wednesday amid growing tensions between President Michel Sleiman and Hezbollah.

Prior to the session, President Sleiman held talks with Prime Minister Tammam Salam.

This as Minister of Agriculture Akram Chehayeb asserted that an agreement was reached over the appointment of Major General Ibrahim Basbous at the General Directorate of Internal Security Forces and Judge Samir Hammoud at the General Prosecution.

For his part, Minister of Finance Ali Hassan Khalil said that five persons will be appointed soon, among them four women.

Meanwhile, Minister of Justice Ashraf Rifi said that he will revive dialogue with Hezbollah "in an attempt to safeguard national unity," adding that nothing prevents him from visiting Tripoli's Jabal Mohsen neighborhood.

This as sources told LBCI that the cabinet will appoint Faten Younis as director general of political affairs, Ahmed Hamdan as head of the Audit Bureau and Mansour Daou as governor of the South.
