In his weekly stance to Al-Anbaa newspaper, Jumblatt stated that discussions pertaining to the series of ranks and salaries are not addressing the issue in depth, stressing that the main problem is the result of unprecedented corruption at the public sector, as well as the absence of any plans or reforms that aim at pulling public administrations out of a "miserable reality".
MP Jumblatt questioned how discussions were now limited to the possibility of imposing taxes on maritime properties, adding that they completely ignore considering a law that would fully cover these properties, and penalize violators.
He also emphasized that discussions taking place are not tackling the root cause of the problem, mainly the airport and the port's customs, stressing that “the debate over a rightful and important cause is taking place in an informal manner.”
In this regard, Jumblatt called on officials to get to the bottom of the issue and properly examine the dossier in order to forge a solution to the repercussions of rampant corruption in the country.
