Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai denied Friday the remarks that were attributed to him concerning his rejection to any presidential candidate from either the March 8 or March 14 camps, stressing that any president elected by Parliament, affiliated with either camps, or independent, will be a president to all the Lebanese people.
During a press conference held at Beirut International Airport upon his arrival from his Geneva trip, Rai said that he respects the Parliament and the constitution, noting that the constitution can be amended if required.
On another note, Rai said that the Arab League–United Nations envoy Lakhdar Brahimi is not looking forward to a Geneva 3 conference, adding that he has been convinced that the Syrian war “has become absurd and must end as soon as possible.”
“All the parties are concerned over peace in the Middle East and Lebanon’s stability,” Rai added.
