REPORT: Legislative session defers discussions over payscale for 15 days
The legislative session resumed on Tuesday as parliament voted to defer discussions over the draft law pertaining to the series of ranks and salaries for 15 days

Earlier, Speaker Nabih Berri had voiced rejection to MP Georges Adwan's suggestion to postpone discussions only to later approve for the sake of further deliberations.

Similarly, Change and Reform MP Alain Aoun had demanded that cabinet withdraw the new pay scale draft law from parliament in order to carry out further studies on the highly contested matter.

As for Kataeb MP Samer Saade, he noted that finding revenues for the pay scale is the responsibility of the government and "if it can't do so, let it declare bankruptcy or leave."

Meanwhile, Future MP Fouad Siniora suggested to form a committee which includes the Ministers of Finance and Economy and several MPs to discuss the impact of the pay scale on the economy.

For his part, Speaker Nabih Berri lashed out at Siniora's suggestion, saying that all issues related to the pay scale were thoroughly deliberated and discussed.

Similarly, Loyalty to the Resistance Bloc Ali Ammar rejected Siniora's suggestion saying that Lebanese citizens "should not bear the responsibility of mistakes made by others."

Prior to the session, a delegation from the Union Coordinating Committee, chaired by the Head of UCC Hanna Gharib, handed the Secretary-General of the parliament Adnan Daher a memorandum of remarks pertaining to the pay scale.

This as the session was kept public after a suggestion submitted by Lebanese Forces MP Antoine Zahra to keep the session confidential was vetoed.

On another note, representatives of various media outlets stood a minute of silence in tribute to Al-Manar TV crew members who were killed in Syria’s Maaloula.
