Geagea predicts Syrian regime to collapse in 2012

The Head of the Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea said that 2012 will witness the fall of the Syrian regime is bound to collapse, which will bear heavy repercussions on Lebanon and will result in a new power balance.

During a dinner for the LF’s general assembly in Mehrab, Geagea said “2012 is the year to reap what we sow”. Geagea added that following the fall of the Syrian regime “we will enter a complicated political process before achieving a new political regime with clear features allowing the establishment of relations between Lebanon, as am [independent] state, and Syria as an [independent] state.”

Geagea decried the incident of Wadi Khaled village that killed three of its residents, voicing regret that the Lebanese government did not clarify its stance regarding the incident.

“What happened [in Wadi Khaled] was not a car accident, three people fell victim of this attack”, Geagea said. Geagea criticized the remarks made by some officials who said that Al Qaeda militants are present in Lebanon.

“This is the first time that I see ministers planning ahead to tarnish the reputation of their country. The officials who made statements about the presence of Al Qaeda members in Lebanon, are they telling us to embark on a battle against Al Qaeda? This is their job. Thankfully the president and the PM contained the situation, but the appropriate measure against those who have made such declarations should be taken”, Geagea said.
