Labor Minister Azzi to LBCI: UCC has a democratic right

Labor Minister Sejaan Azzi stated on Tuesday that the Union Coordinating Committee (UCC) has a democratic right, pointing out that the Lebanese state should respond to the demands of the UCC.

Minister Azzi told LBCI’s Nharkom Said that Lebanese citizens are incapable of withstanding additional taxes, emphasizing that Lebanese authorities should ensure other funding sources and work on ending all sources of waste and corruption.

The Union Coordinating Committee resumed its movements calling on the authorities to pass the pay scale, which stipulates a wage hike.

The decision to revive movements came as a result of the failure of the Joint Parliamentary Committees to resolve the dispute on the Value Added Tax in a proposal aimed at securing the funds for the salary scale that was approved by former Prime Minister Najib Mikati's cabinet.
