Jumblatt reiterates his 'constant' support for the Syrian revolution
The head of the Progressive Socialist Party MP Walid Jumblatt said on Monday that he has been supporting the Syrian people since the outbreak of the revolution nearly three years ago, when peaceful popular demonstrations were held to call for freedom, democracy and dignity, stressing that he is still supporting these rightful demands against injustice, dictatorship and oppression.

“The revolution has been significantly distorted due to the deadly violence practiced by the regime and the absence of a clear policy adopted by the so-called Friends of Syria group, allowing extremist groups to enter Syria and deviate the revolution from its primary course,” he added.

In his weekly statement to al-Anbaa website, Jumblatt rejected any attempt to involve Israel, referring to leaked information concerning “a security and intelligence cooperation of a number of parties of the revolution, which now serves as a fulcrum base for Israeli intelligence.”

In this context, he stressed that this matter is extremely dangerous and contradicts with the historical track of Syria as an Arab nation, adding that such claims hinder the possibility of building a Syrian state on the concepts of diversity, pluralism and Arabism, and lead to further fragmentation and division, similar to Lebanon during the civil war and Israeli occupation.

On another note, Jumblatt stated that calling for holding the Syrian presidential elections "over the remains of the Syrian people and the ruins of the destroyed cities and villages is nothing but a tragedy," and if held, will have devastating results.

Accordingly, the head of the PSP urged the Syrian National Coalition and the national opposition parties to take a firm and decisive stance over the developments, which may harm the revolution and undermine the sacrifices of the Syrian people.
