Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea stressed on Tuesday the need to elect a strong Lebanese President with a clear political agenda, noting that the Lebanese are tired of the presidents who were elected “to manage the crisis.”

"We need a president who finds solutions to crises. We cannot tolerate the current situation. We have been managing crises for forty years and each consensual president will continue to do so," Geagea added.

He also warned against presidential vaccum, adding that his remarks delivered during the press conference on Monday have been misinterpreted by some, mainly by supporters of MP Michel Aoun.

Remarks attributed to Geagea by some media reports had caused controversy on Monday and prompted the LF to describe them as “incorrect and totally inaccurate.”

He was quoted as saying that former Prime Minister Saad Hariri suggested during their Paris meeting the possibility of endorsing Aoun as a “consensual” candidate. But later, Geagea clarified that Hariri only raised the issue of Aoun's nomination as one of several "possibilities.

Geagea added that he is at equal distance from all political parties in Lebanon, including Hezbollah and the Free Patriotic Movement.

He concluded by saying that "no one in Lebanon has the right to hold weapons in Lebanon, neither Hezbollah nor other groups."

In the first parliamentary session to elect a president, Geagea only garnered 48 votes, falling short of the 86 votes needed by any candidate to elected as president in the first round.

The March 8 forces forced a lack of quorum in the three other sessions that were scheduled.

President Michel Sleiman's mandate ends on May 25.
