Sleiman: I refuse the one-basket logic in appointments

President Michel Sleiman met with a visiting delegation from the Press Syndicate on Thursday at Baabda Palace. Speaking on the heated appointments issue, Sleiman maintained the obligation to hold onto the adopted mechanism, voicing utter refusal of the one-basket logic.

Sleiman stressed that the government has settled a number of pending issues, such as the separation of the legislative and executive powers, executive decrees that will organize the oil sector, the electricity plan and a project to support most deprived households.

Sleiman added that the cabinet was to resume discussions over draft laws on legislative elections, state budget, and administrative decentralization. Sleiman noted that positive signs are pointing towards the possibility of resuming national dialogue sessions.  

Sleiman confirmed that security apparatuses were fully assuming their duties, underscoring the need to avoid an environment favorable for terrorism.

Foreign Minister Adnan Mansour also met with Sleiman to discuss the current general situation and diplomatic ties between Lebanon and foreign countries.

Sleiman also met with Army Intelligence Chief, General Edmond Fadel, who briefed him on the security situation in a number of regions.
