Man suspected of plotting Patriarch's assassination released- ISF
The General Directorate of the Internal Security Forces said a Syrian man, suspected of plotting the assassination of Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai, was released for lack of evidence.

The 24-year-old man identified by his initials as G.S., was arrested after reportedly taking pictures of some locations and streets leading to the town of Hamlaya Rai was expected to visit next month, the ISF said.

The security forces investigated the allegations and referred the suspect to the Information Bureau for questioning.

Interrogations revealed that the man was mentally ill, the statement said, adding that his father denied the claims and confirmed his son's mental illness.

“Investigation showed that the man alongside his father do not have ties with any intelligence agency and have no record. Accordingly, they were released on bail,” the ISF said.
