Hmadeh talks post-Assad Syria

Opposition MP Marwan Hmadeh foretold a reversion to Taef by Lebanese politicians following the demise of the Baathist regime in Damascus.

Hmadeh's predictions came during his visit to pro-Hariri Jama'a Islamiyyah's Aysha Bakkar main office today where he reportedly told Jama'a officials Ibrahim Masri and Wael Najm that any prospective change in Syria would be conducive to "cutting down in size of respective factions in Lebanon as dictated under the Taef Accord."

On prospects of sliding into civil strife, the deputy ruled out such an eventuality saying "politicians are wise enough not to get to that."

Marwan and Jama'a leaders agreed on assisting Syrians displaced by the regime into Lebanon as part of their all-out support for the Syrian revolution.

He accused the Assad regime of orchestrating recent bombings including that of Maydan/Damascus and, urged Gen. Aoun to detach from Hizbullah tutelage.

The deputy denied Jama'a involvement in recent South Lebanon rocketing and minimized the impact of Iran's war-games in the straits of Hormoz calling them "pyro-plastic firecrackers" without ruling out the existence of real regional tensions.
