MP Jumblatt says will not vote for Geagea, Aoun
MP Walid Jumblatt said on Tuesday that he will inform former Prime Minister Saad Hariri of his opposition to the presidential candidacies of head of the Free Patriotic Movement MP Michel Aoun and Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea.

Jumblatt’s comments were made to Al-Arabiya in an interview whereby he added that he supports moderation via his party's nomination of MP Henry Helou.

Lebanon has been without a president since May 25, as lawmakers failed to agree on a consensual candidate.

Aoun has been waiting for Hariri to endorse his undeclared candidacy for the presidency but the Future bloc and the March 14 camp have repeatedly said that Geagea was their only candidate for the country's top post.

Jumblatt said he hoped that the new president would follow the footsteps of former President Michel Sleiman, saying that the latter established the foundation of the state in the Baabda Declaration, considered as the former president’s most renowned achievement.

The declaration, signed by rival groups in 2012 stipulates that Lebanon should adopt a self-dissociation policy regarding the regional turmoil, mainly the crisis in Syria.

As for the Syrian dossier, Jumblatt said the Syrian regime was only capable of assassinating, adding that it is “a disgrace for Syrian Druze to support someone who is killing his people."
