Interior Minister Mashnouq vows to fight terrorism

Interior Minister Nouhad Mashnouq laid on Monday the foundation stone of a new building at the Roumieh prison, and said his ministry is doing its utmost to fight terrorism.

“There is a breeding ground for terrorists in this prison,” the minister said during his inauguration speech at the Roumieh prison.

"We cannot dissociate Lebanon from regional incidents- the latest being the situation in Iraq- without a serious work," Mashnouq said.

He also stressed that the security plan is ongoing in cooperation with the Lebanese Armed Forces, vowing to combat terrorism even inside prisons.

Roumieh, the oldest and largest of Lebanon's overcrowded prisons, has witnessed sporadic prison breaks in recent years.
