Archbishop Darwish: Ahrar al-Sunna Brigade's statement aims to foment tensions
Roman Orthodox Archbishop of Ferzol, Zahle and the Bekaa, Bishop Issam Youhanna Darwish, reassured on Thursday the residents of Bekaa in particular and Lebanon in general, stressing that the Ahrar al-Sunna Brigade's statement was not "serious".

On Wednesday, the Baalbek-based Ahrar al-Sunna Brigade said via twitter that a jihadi group has been tasked with cleansing the Bekaa region in particular and Lebanon in general from “churches.”

The brigade added that the group will target "Crusaders" in Lebanon in order to stop church bells from ringing.

"The statement issued by the Ahrar al-Sunna Brigade is part of a plot to foment tensions in the Bekaa region," Bishop Darwish said.

He also urged the residents to remain vigilant, lauding efforts exerted by the Lebanese army and the security forces to uphold peace and stability.

In this regard, Darwish called for cooperation among all Lebanese sects in a bid to spare the country impending hazards.
