LAF Commander General Kahwagi meets with US ambassador Hale

US Ambassador to Lebanon David Hale met on Sunday with Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) Commander General Jean Kahwaji.

During the meeting, ambassador Hale extended his condolences after the death of nine soldiers during clashes with gunmen in the northeastern border town of Arsal.

He also praised the courage of members of all of Lebanon’s security forces in their work to provide safety and stability throughout the country, and to secure its borders.

Ambassador Hale stressed the US solidarity with the LAF, encouraging all parties to work to insulate Lebanon from regional conflicts.

Ambassador Hale reiterated also US support for the self-dissociation policy, reaffirming continued support for Lebanon’s security forces in this mission.

Clashes are ongoing on Sunday between the Lebanese Armed Forces soldiers and gunmen in the northeastern border town of Arsal.

The unrest erupted on Saturday after Syrian gunmen deployed in across Arsal’s mountainous region, in retaliation for the arrest of Syrian national Imad Ahmad Jomaa at a LAF checkpoint.
