A tragedy, a disaster, a catastrophe; different labels for the same event.

24 hours after the collapse of the building in Fassouh, the scale of the disaster soon became evident. Most of those still trapped in the rubble this evening are presumed to be dead as it seems growingly impossible to find any survivors. Until the report on the reasons behind the collapse is finalized, the building’s failure presumably due to age raised major concerns for the residents of similar buildings in Beirut and all across Lebanon. With the collapse of each building, the issue of public safety is raised, only to decline and vanish with time.

While we are waiting for the search operations to end, for the survivors to be provided with homes and for the injured to be treated, herein lies the question: when do the binding measures begin effectively preventing such disasters from being repeated?
