MP Jumblatt calls for creating new regional system to fight terrorism

Head of the National Struggle Front MP Walid Jumblatt said Monday that the old Arab system has been gradually collapsing due to the waves of violence and murder that have been invading the Arab region and “the dramatic development of the political and security incidents,” causing the gradual fading of the geographic borders between the countries.

In this regard, Jumblatt noted that the Arab World is incapable of fighting terrorism by itself, pointing out that the time has come to reconsider “the concept of the Arab League and to kick off work on a new regional system that includes the participation of Iran and Turkey.”

In his weekly statement to al-Anbaa website, Jumblatt stressed that serious planning for the said project can prepare for a new stage, during which the Arab League can change the course of action, in cooperation with other regional players.

Commenting on the declaration of US President Barack Obama regarding his upcoming plan to fight the Islamic State, the MP said that excluding Iran from any international effort is meaningless and will delay any positive results in the war against terror.

“It is ironic how the predecessor of President Obama, President Bush, worked on destroying Iraq, leading it to chaos, while the current US administration has been standing idly by as the Arab World drowns into mayhem,” Jumblatt stated.
