MP Kanaan calls for extraordinary legislation to boost army's capabilities
Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan called on Tuesday for an extraordinary legislation session to provide the Lebanese Armed Forces with funds and military equipment.

"We should support the Lebanese state, its army and institutions," Kanaan said following the bloc's weekly meeting, noting that LAF martyrs Ali al-Sayyed and Abbas Medlej are two "heroes".

MP Kanaan also stressed the need to take decisive stances regarding takfiri groups, adding that the Lebanese cabinet should no longer remain paralyzed.

On August 28, the Islamic State posted photos and a video online reportedly depicting a militant beheading a blindfolded hostage who was identified as LAF Sergeant Ali al-Sayyed.

In a similar incident, Islamic State militants executed a captive Lebanese soldier identified as Abbas Medlej, images published on social media showed on Saturday (Sept. 06), the second Lebanese soldier to be killed in captivity by the group since it raided Arsal last month.
