Kataeb leader calls for broader opposition to Hezbollah during visit to Bkerki

Kataeb Party leader Samy Gemayel said there is broad Lebanese support for President Joseph Aoun and Prime Minister Nawaf Salam in what he described as efforts to restore sovereignty and national decision-making in Lebanon, adding that “this course will not stop.”

Speaking from Bkerki, Gemayel accused Hezbollah of leading a campaign against the Maronite patriarch and Lebanese officials, claiming the group is part of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and describing the campaign as Iranian.

He also said he was awaiting a position from the “Shiite opposition” rejecting efforts to place the Shiite community in confrontation with the rest of the Lebanese people.

Gemayel further questioned “how long Hezbollah will continue taking Lebanon and its people hostage for Iran’s interests,” adding that the movement launched by President Aoun should also emerge within the Shiite community against Hezbollah’s conduct so that “the country can be rebuilt through genuine partnership.”
