De Mistura after meeting with Berri: No military solution for Syrian conflict

The United Nations and Arab League peace envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura stressed Friday that there is no military solution for the conflict in Syria, adding that his trip that includes Iran, Russia, Syria and other regional countries, as well as New York, aims at seeking new means in a bid to hasten any political process that will help block the advance of the Islamic State.

Following his meeting with Speaker Nabih Berri, de Mistura said that a political solution is the only way to face the danger of the Islamic State in the region of the Middle East, pointing out that Berri not only is an expert on Lebanese matters, but also on the regional situation, particularly the conflict in Syria.

“Berri gave very good advice and I tried to understand the seriousness of the impact imposed by the Syrian conflict on Lebanon’s situation,” he stated.
