LAF units pursue gunmen in Bhannine, Menieh towns

Lebanese Armed Forces units deployed in the towns of Bhannine and Menieh are still pursuing gunmen who had set up in the morning a barrier at the Bhannine bridge and attacked a military vehicle, killing two soldiers and leaving three others seriously wounded.

Raid operations carried out by the army near the Bhannine bridge are conducted, more specifically, at the southern entrance of the Nahr al-Bared camp.

The Army Command said earlier that Lebanese troops clashed with an armed group in the Akkar town of Mhammara and reopened the main road the militants tried to block.

"Two soldiers were killed and others were injured during clashes," the army said, adding that gunmen suffered casualties.

Earlier on Saturday, the Lebanese army sent reinforcements to the entrance of the Bhannine town in Akkar where gunmen opened fire at a military vehicle, wounding three soldiers.

The army also traded fire with armed groups in Bhannine, just north of Tripoli.

A wounded soldier in a critical condition was transported by a military helicopter from al-Yousuf medical center in Halba to Beirut for treatment.

Sources also told LBCI that the army raided the residence of Sheikh Khaled Hablas after revealing that a group linked to him ambushed the Lebanese Armed Forces on the Bhannine road.

The raid prompted gunmen to open fire from a room near Hablas's residence and the army responded to sources of fire.

Two gunmen were killed, the sources said, adding that weapons and RPGs were seized from the house.
