Telecommunications Minister Boutros Harb stated Friday that the current situation reveals a coup being implemented against the constitution, noting that this coup began when the Change and Reform bloc and Hezbollah withdrew from the second round of the presidential elections.
During a joint press conference with MP Dori Chamoun, Harb stressed the need to accept an exceptional extension for the Parliament’s mandate until a new president is elected, who in turn will call for parliamentary consultations to form a new cabinet, which will pave the way for the parliamentary elections.
Harb added that he is aware of the fact that the term extension is a non-democratic procedure, noting however that “it is the only solution to save Lebanon from total collapse.”
For his part, Chamoun urged all politicians to put Lebanon’s interest above all other matters and to seek an end to the current crisis.
