The Internal Security Forces issued on Saturday a statement in which it said that police guards at the Tyre prison foiled an attempt to smuggle a quantity of hashish that was hidden in a number of potatoes.

“Palestinian national M. A., 22, was apprehended after he tried to smuggle a quantity of hashish that was stuffed into 16 potatoes,” the statement added.
The meal was destined for 33-year-old Palestinian prisoner R. F..

This is not the first time smugglers have used unusual ideas in their attempts to breach prison security measures.

On October 22, guards foiled an attempt to smuggle hundreds of Benzhexol pills and an amount of hashish that were hidden in a pair of shoes into the al-Qobbeh prison in the northern city of Tripoli.

In July, security forces at the Aley prison seized a quantity of hashish that was hidden in “pistachio shells.”

Earlier in the year, security guards at the Zahle prison foiled separate attempts to smuggle drugs in a toothpaste tube, meat pastries, meat sandwiches and apricots.
