Mikati: I will not resign from serving peoples' interests

PM Najib Mikati said on Thursday that he was the target of ill-founded accusations, adding that he overcame them for the sake of Lebanon.

“I faced all trials because my sole purpose is stability and my mission is to protect it”, Mikati added, “I will not engage in controversies that Lebanon should not bear”.

In a speech delivered during a closing ceremony at Tripoli harbor, Mikati said that although he was and still is open for quiet discussions, he will not accept for the constitution to be violated.

“Some are attempting to obstruct work in the cabinet and I will not accept that on behalf of the Lebanese”, Mikati stressed.

Mikati said that it is not about boycotting or resigning from my position, stressing that he will never stop serving people’s interest. Mikati urged the cabinet to be productive and to discuss matters clearly, underscoring the need to steer clear from score-keeping.

“This is why I took the decision to suspend Wednesday’s session, until an agreement is reached to render the cabinet more productive”, Mikati said.

“I bet that everyone is willing to assume their responsibilities towards the country, since Lebanon cannot bear any more shocks. We should not fail to remember that the constitution is more than just words”, Mikati said.
