MP Kanaan to LBCI: We have joint responsibilities with Lebanese Forces despite differences

Member of the Change and Reform bloc MP Ibrahim Kanaan revealed Sunday that contacts are underway between the Free Patriotic Movement and the Lebanese Forces, noting that they may hold a meeting in the near future.

In a statement to LBCI’s Nharkom Said, Kanaan pointed out that the Change and Reform bloc will discuss the items to be placed on the meeting’s agenda, most important among which will be the presidential issue.

“It is true that we have been separated by the events of the past, but we do have a historic responsibility in designing a common national vision,” he said, hoping that the dialogue will include all the Lebanese factions.

The MP added that he urged Speaker Nabih Berri to call for a session for the parliamentary joint committees to vote on the pay scale daft law, stating that the pay scale has been put off due to the lack of political will.

In this context, he revealed that the Future bloc is rejecting the item pertaining to the salary raise allocated for the military personnel, which has suspended the approval of the draft law.

On another note, the deputy rejected the accusations launched against him concerning maritime property infringements, revealing a permit that his family received in 1987 allowing 100 meters of land reclamation, in a bid to protect an estate owned by the family.

He explained that the land reclamation is adjacent to the estate located in Haret Sakher, Keserwan.
