MP Hekmat Dib to LBCI: PM Salam’s stance over Beirut Port’s fourth basin is “positive”
Change and Reform bloc MP Hekmat Dib said on Tuesday that Prime Minister Tammam Salam’s stance over the controversy of filling Beirut Port’s fourth basin is “positive.”

Dib also noted that filling the mentioned basin is a dangerous issue that needs the approval of all Lebanese factions.

MP Dib’s comments were made during an interview with Nharkom Said TV show in which he asserted that filling the fourth basin will have negative impacts on all Lebanese people of all sects.

He also said that Bkerke is on the issue due to the current presidential vacuum at the Baabda Palace.

In contrast, former Future MP Mustapha Alloush said during a phone call with Nharkom Said that the filling of the basin would not end the role of Beirut Port, adding that directing large vessels to the Port of Tripoli will improve the development in all Lebanese regions.

The decision taken by port authorities to resume work in the fourth basin prompted a syndicate of truck drivers to launch an open-ended strike on Monday, to put pressure on the cabinet into permanently halting the project that critics say could jeopardize 1,500 jobs.
