Lebanese Forces leader Samir Geagea held talks on Monday night with Foreign Affairs Minister Gebran Bassil at Maarab. Geagea and Bassil reportedly discussed several issues, including the draft-law governing the granting expats the Lebanese nationality. The previous cabinet had approved a draft law, submitted by then Interior Minister Marwan Charbel, allowing Lebanese expatriates who were born abroad and only have the citizenship of the country of their birth to submit an application to obtain the Lebanese nationality also. Under the current Lebanese law, Lebanese expatriates can only obtain citizenship from their father. The new law would allow them to receive dual citizenship if they have a Lebanese grandfather. Under Lebanese law, women cannot pass on their nationality to their children. The latest draft law would help Lebanese expatriates participate in the Lebanese parliamentary elections in the Lebanese embassies abroad.
