Maronite Patriarch Cardinal Beshara Boutros Rai stated on Saturday that “Lebanon is witnessing a type of political death that is controlling the fate of the people and the nation," pointing out that this matter has led to vacuum at the presidential level.
In his Easter message to Lebanese Christians and others at large, Patriarch Rai stated that deputies do not have any constitutional justification to boycott parliamentary sessions aimed at electing a president, pointing out that “Lebanese officials are waiting for foreign intervention to elect their head of state.”
Rai called on parliamentarians to head to parliament and end the presidential deadlock, emphasizing that Lebanese people are adamant on coexistence and are against a sectarian war similar to wars taking place in neighboring countries.
In this regard, Patriarch Rai called on the international community to exert the utmost efforts to end regional wars and secure the return of refugees to their homelands.
